AREAS OF FOCUS

Climate Change and Environment

Climate change in Tanzania affects the natural environment, and temperatures rise with a higher likelihood of extreme rainfall events (resulting in flooding) and dry spells (resulting in droughts). The consequences of climate change for agriculture and food security in Tanzania are of serious concern. Due to reliance on rain-fed agriculture both as a source of income and consumption, Tanzania is generally considered vulnerable to climate change.

The impact of climate change in Tanzania includes changing rainfall patterns that affect agriculture and disrupt food availability, reducing access to food to the majority of the population and affecting food quality.

We seek to collaborate with other partners to address what is happening i.e., rising temperatures, drought and wild fires that are starting to occur more frequently, shifting rainfall patterns, loss of soil biodiversity, eminent desertification due to deforestation and unsustainable practices, decline in organic matter, salinization, flooding and the rising global mean sea level.
